I am officially through the first week of my study abroad! In a way, I feel like I have lived here all my life while on the other hand, I can’t believe how fast this week went by! Salamanca continues to be breathtaking and this week has solidified my confidence in all aspects of this trip.
I finally have a handle on the city; no more asking people for directions to get back home! My classes are going great, and I can’t believe how quickly I am learning to understand the fast paced native professors (that’s not to say I understand it all yet)! Most importantly, I have only been here for 7 days and I can already see improvement in my speaking skills! I have a lot of work to go, but with 5 more weeks left I have a feeling I’ll only continue to improve.
I still don’t think I could ever get sick of this gorgeous city. This week has allowed plenty of time for more exploring and the sites are incredible. I even found a running route down by the river, and it’s scenery never fails to amaze me.
My host mom and I seem to be connecting well, and I get a lot of practice with my Spanish at home! Lunch is my favorite time of day where she continues to make AMAZING foods and we talk about our days. These connections were important to me when I came and I hope I can continue to grow and cherish them long after my trip is over!
Tomorrow we have a day excursion to Toledo, Spain. It’s a city known for its religious history and beautiful scenery, and I’m excited to visit it! My time here has been nothing short of fantastic, and I can’t wait to expand on that! Today I can say that my anxiety from the beginning of this week is gone, and with that brings a confidence that this trip will be an eye opening, once in a lifetime experience. I vow to cherish every second of it.
