Archaeologist and professor Peter Paul Pratt, a University of Michigan alum and friend of the Museum, passed away on July 5, 2024.

Peter earned his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1966. His mentor was James E. Fitting, curator of Great Lakes Archaeology. The title of his dissertation, which is available to read here, was “Archaeology of the Oneida Iroquois as related to early acculturation and to the location of the Champlain-Iroquois Battle of 1615.”

For most of his life, Peter lived and worked in central New York. Throughout his distinguished career, Peter maintained his connection with the University of Michigan. He was a strong supporter of UMMAA and was a member of the Museum’s Advisory Committee. He will be greatly missed.
