Giving BLUEDAY is almost here!
The University has funded social media challenges throughout the day. Use these opportunities to make your gift go even further.
The Museum of Anthropological Archaeology will once again be participating in the annual day of giving, Wednesday, March 16, 2022. We encourage both first-time and regular donors to make a contribution to the Museum on this day. There will be opportunities for matching funds and hourly challenges during the day. Your generous contributions will help to fund the James B. Griffin North American Range fund.
James B. Griffin directed UMMAA, then the Museum of Anthropology, for 31 years. He was appointed interim director in 1944 and director in 1946, a position he held until his retirement in 1975. Griffin continued the Museum’s commitment to scientific fieldwork and research, establishing the Radiocarbon Laboratory in 1950, only the second lab of its kind in the country. Griffin also continued the Museum’s longstanding commitment to graduate education, serving on more than 40 doctoral committees. Many alumni of the Museum have fond memories of lunch with Jimmy, in the so-called Coffee Range. His impact on UMMAA and on our field of anthropological archaeology has been deep and lasting.
In honor of Jimmy, we are raising money for an endowment, which will support the instructional and research activities of the North American range. Once endowed, the range will be renamed the James B. Griffin North American Range. Please give to the cause and help secure Jimmy Griffin’s Michigan legacy!
More information will be provided through social media and our Museum's website as Giving Blueday approaches.
