Major: Biology, Health, and Society
Hometown: Long Beach, CA
Where did you transfer from? Central Texas College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I transferred to the University of Michigan because I wanted a college experience that allowed me to experience a variety of different pathways. From research to student organizations to the wide variety of classes and study abroad options, I wanted to try it all and explore all my options. Although I am pursuing a Biology degree, I love having the option to learn new ideas and concepts.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? Live, laugh and love!! Transitioning into the University is hard, but when you are open to change and new perspectives, the process will be easier to navigate. There’s so many new things to try and different people to meet. Remember to ask for help, and don’t forget to realize that you are meant to be at the University of Michigan.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I put myself out there! I went to events, spoke to the people who sat next to me, and joined clubs that I was genuinely interested in. I definitely was super scared, but I found some of the best people!!
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? LSA really cares about their students and that can be seen through all the events that offer free food and clothing (I once got a free pair of SUPER SICK pants and ice cream on the same day!!). Academics wise, it’s also awesome to have a wide range of classes I can choose from. I had a class that taught about finding your purpose in life!
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan? Parking can be difficult to navigate at first. Luckily, people who live near the University can sell their parking spaces for a cheaper price! There’s also free parking options!
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I am a girl with many passions (and have no idea what I want to do with my life yet) and Biology, Health, and Society gives me the freedom to pursue a general Pre-Health route that satisfies different graduate school requirements.
