Major: Computer Science
Hometown: Bloomfield Hills, MI
Where did you transfer from? Oakland Community College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I wanted to go to an in-state school and I thought that UMich would provide the best academic and social balance for me.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? Try your best not to compare your personal journey to other students and even other transfer students. Everyone adjusts at different speeds and I find it important to be patient with yourself.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? Going to the same club consistently helped me make friends here. I challenged myself to keep attending club meetings, and I found that I would eventually recognize faces and they would recognize me. Also, eventually joining the e-board of that club led to meeting a lot of new people during my time here.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? Honestly, I really enjoy finding out that someone else is also a transfer student. It’s a cool icebreaker and since you already have something in common, I find it easier to converse with them.
What do you know now that you wish you’d known before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I knew how many other UMich students are transfer students. I know now that I am never alone in my journey, and there are a lot of resources and people that want me to be successful.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I really enjoyed a Computer Science course I took at my previous school, and I thought that LSA would provide a holistic academic experience that paired well with my core classes.
