Major: Linguistics
Minor: Dance
Hometown: Traverse City, MI
Where did you transfer from? Pace University, Washtenaw Community College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I’ve always loved Ann Arbor, but I was especially drawn to the feeling that I got when I was on campus as well as the well-rounded education at LSA.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? If you don’t get in the first time, keep trying! Find an advisor—me; a recruiting coordinator—to help you figure out what else you need to do to get in. I didn’t get into UMich the first time I applied as a transfer student because I didn’t have a lot of graduation distribution credits done; I just had a ton of dance credits from Pace.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? The majority of my friends right now are from my co-op that I live in, Nakamura. There’s about 29 people that live in my house. I also joined the Filipino American Students Association club on campus, and I'm starting to make friends there. Another thing to consider is class size: I value classes with a more intimate environment, so 4 out of 5 of my classes have 20 people or less.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? I feel like I finally belong here, and I feel like I can be myself.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I chose Spanish and Linguistics because they were both subjects that I felt a passion for and something that I knew I likely wouldn’t get bored of, but didn’t feel like it was too out of my comfort zone.
