Where did you transfer from? Schoolcraft College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I decided to transfer to The University of Michigan not just because my family and I have been lifelong Wolverines, but also because I saw the opportunities available to me as a Michigan student. The distinguished staff, clubs, athletics, and academics stuck out while applying as a transfer, and are still noticeable now. I saw opportunities for success, both academically and personally, transferring to U of M.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? I want to tell new transfer students to utilize the resources available to you. These resources can come in the form of emails, orientations, the Transfer Student Center, and advising. Also, I want new transfer students to ask good questions to those who can give them good answers.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I met friends on campus by joining organizations. I am a student leader at The SALT company, which is a campus ministry here on campus. On Thursday nights in the Union, I meet with other college aged students on their faith journey. I have met a great group of students there, as well as in the small groups SALT has throughout the week! I also have sat next to people in class that I have become close with!
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? My favorite part about being an LSA transfer student is being able to rep the Wolverines while also knowing my roots coming from a community college. I am able to proudly proclaim I am a Wolverine and that I belong here, while also having schooling at another institution that helped pave the way. Meeting other transfer students and hearing their story, and having something to relate with, is also a great feeling.
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I knew how many resources were available before transferring. I knew about certain opportunities, clubs, and jobs because of friends, family, and transfer events, but I didn’t take time out on my own to research all that was available.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I am interested in the decisions that people make, and especially how money drives people's choices. Seeing how seemingly small choices can impact the market as a whole is fascinating to me. Economics explains the heart of this and also provides insight in the world of finance and government.
