Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I chose to transfer to the University of Michigan because, as a pre-medical student, I am actively seeking opportunities to learn and grow. The University of Michigan stood out as my top choice due to its vast array of research and volunteering opportunities, which will allow me to gain invaluable experience. Additionally, the strong sense of community and numerous ways to get involved will help me develop both academically and personally. On top of that, the university's solid educational program, which is ranked among the best in the world, will provide me with the rigorous academic foundation I need to excel in my future medical career.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? The one thing I want to tell new transfer students is to get involved and join clubs that match their interests. Take advantage of the amazing programs available, and don’t hesitate to seek help—whether through tutoring or joining study groups. Most importantly, trust the process, embrace the journey, and enjoy every step along the way.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I made friends and met other students on campus by joining a community living program called Global Scholars, which allowed me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. I also engaged with the Transfer Student Center, where I met others in similar situations and built great friendships. Additionally, I joined a soccer team through the university's recreational sports program, which helped me bond with teammates. On top of that, I formed study groups and connected with friends from the classes I’m taking, which has been another great way to meet people and stay engaged academically.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? My favorite part about being an LSA transfer student is how much the university truly appreciates and supports us. The resources and guidance provided show how committed they are to our success, which makes this large university feel a little smaller and more like home.
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I had known just how much support the University of Michigan provides for transfer students. It would have saved me a lot of unnecessary panicking and worrying. Knowing that there are so many resources and people ready to help would have made the transition much smoother.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I chose Political Science because I am passionate about understanding how the world works, how politics shapes our everyday lives, and how these systems impact society. Alongside my passion for medicine, Political Science allows me to explore my interests and broaden my perspective. As a pre-med student, I realized that if I want to become a doctor, I want to be well-rounded, following my passions while gaining a deeper understanding of the world around me. My ultimate goal is to become a doctor who is not only passionate and empathetic but also deeply attuned to the broader issues that influence people’s lives.
