Major: Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience
Hometown: San Mateo, CA
Where did you transfer from? Bates College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I came from a much smaller school, and I wanted a bigger university with more opportunities, classes, research, and ways to get involved. Michigan felt like a place where I could explore more and meet all kinds of different people.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? Give yourself time! Transferring can feel overwhelming at first, but you really do start to find your people and your place on campus.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I made friends through joining as many groups as possible! I also learned that sometimes you just have to put yourself out there and talk to people, even if it feels a little awkward at first!
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? I love how many different opportunities there are in LSA. There are so many classes, organizations, research opportunities, and people to learn from, so I feel like I am always finding something new.
What do you know now that you wish you’d known before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I knew that it was okay to not have everything figured out right away. It takes time to understand a new school, make friends, and figure out where you fit in.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I chose Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience because I have always been interested in psychology and understanding why people think, feel, and behave the way they do. I also liked that the major lets me learn about both the brain and human behavior.
