Circadian clocks, which keep the time of the day in many organisms, rely on forcing by the alternation of light and dark to synchronize to the day/night cycle. An important question is then how they can tick regularly in spite of fast random fluctuations due to changing weather and of slow predictable changes due to seasonal variations. In this talk, I will review how recent results on the circadian clock of the green microscopic alga Ostreococcus tauri cast some light on this problem.
