Ongoing experimental efforts, using coherent lasers, have shown coherences in light harvesting systems and vision. However, these processes occur, in nature, by excitation with natural incoherent light. This profound difference in the character of the incident radiation leads to correspondingly profound effects on the nature of the subsequent molecular dynamics. We review these results and provide insight into the role, or lack thereof, of quantum (Fano) coherences in light harvesting and vision.
