CM-AMO Seminar
Light Localization and Its Applications

Tuesday, December 1, 2009
5:00 AM
335 West Hall

Speaker: Hui Cao (Yale University)

In the latest development of nano-optics, light localization is a key issue. In this talk, Professor Cao will review her teams recent research activities of utilizing optical scattering to achieve light localization. She will present three examples: (i) spatial localization of light in disordered nanostructures; (ii) light localization in the phase space as a result of scattering at the boundary of a chaotic microcavity; (iii) localization of surface plasmon polaritons in metal-dielectric nanocomposites. The application of light localization to microlasers will be demonstrated.

Please see Professor Cao's website for more information.
