As an LSA alumni mentor, you decide how much time you spend with students. Whether it’s a quick meeting or longer-term mentoring relationship, any time you spend with students can make a difference.
Step 1 - Complete the sign-up process.
Signing up for LSA Connect is a quick process. You will be asked to enter information about your educational background as well as personal details such as campus involvement, social identities, employment information, ways you can help a student, and more. Once you are approved, LSA Connect will ask you to further customize your profile by including your industries, regions, and interest topics.
Step 2 - Explore the community.
Once you’re approved as a member of LSA Connect, you’ll be able to explore the community and browse the profiles of other participating LSA alums. You can also engage with other features of the platform, such as the discussion board, resources for mentors, groups, and a formal, long-term mentoring program.
Step 3 - Start Connecting.
Connecting with students is the single most important part of LSA Connect. Here, you can share your expertise and knowledge with current LSA students. So when a student reaches out to you, be ready to connect – they’ll be eager to hear from you! Also, when you are not connecting with a student, you can reach out to other LSA alums.
What are some of the features of LSA Connect?
LSA Connect has several features that allow students and alums to engage with one another. Alums can engage with students through flash mentoring, groups, a formal mentoring program, or the discussion board.
Flash Mentoring
Flash mentorship refers to quick meetings between a mentee and mentor that can be used for informational interviews or general networking. Since flash mentorships are short, they allow students to learn from a variety of individuals with different expertise.
Groups
Groups are communities focused on particular topics or interest areas, such as "Social Impact" or "Women in Finance." Groups allow students and alums to connect one-on-one with other members, giving them access to participants who may not be available for connections elsewhere.
Formal, long-term mentoring program
Programs facilitate formal 1:1 mentorship programs, which range from three to nine months. The module supports applications, application approval/denial, bulk matching, a discussion board, and resources. The Hub’s mentorship team provides a structure that encourages you to get to know one another as individuals and cultivate a long-lasting relationship.
Discussion Board
The discussion board is a place you can learn from others or share your knowledge! On it, you can ask questions (anonymously or as yourself), answer questions, or browse existing topics.
