Stereotyping the Enemy
Historically, the American media have demonized the “enemy” in times of war. After September 11, 2001, LSA assistant professor of American culture Evelyn Alsultany thought that Arabs and Muslims would be portrayed as terrorists by the media. In the years following, however, her research has revealed a surprising change in the storyline.
With the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 approaching, we asked Alsultany to reflect on media representations of Arabs and Muslims.
