The New York Photo League helped to transform how America saw and thought about cities in the 1940s, says Frederick G.L. Huetwell Professor of History Deborah Dash Moore, by showing life as it was lived.

The league also provided a supportive network for photographers such as Sol Libsohn and others who photographed the hustle and bustle of a vibrant, active city, chronicling the lives of the diverse populations who lived in it.
