Professor Heather Ann Thompson Pens Op-Ed in Newsweek on Why Prisoner Protests Matter

The DAAS faculty member argues that by rejecting these protests as "destructive efforts," the public ignores the poor conditions present in American prisons.

"No matter the reason why any incarcerated individual is serving a sentence, those locked behind bars are our mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters," argues Thompson. "They are people deserving of humane treatment so that they can, upon release, return home whole."
