LSA Researcher Helps Discover New Stars in Distant Galaxy with Hubble Space Telescope
Johnson was part of a team that paired NASA's powerful Hubble Space Telescope with a unique computational analysis to create images many times sharper than is possible with the telescope alone. This new view showed a far-off galaxy that appears as it did 11 billion years ago, and is studded with newly-formed stars.
“There are star-forming knots as far down in size as we can see,” Johnson.
Their findings will be published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters and The Astrophysical Journal.
