What is your advising philosophy? I want to give students the resources they will need to make the best decision for their situation. In order to do that, it is imperative to understand the unique backgrounds, experiences, and needs of each student. I strive to be an advisor who will motivate and encourage students, but also make sure they are being held accountable and provide them with different perspectives to consider. Ultimately, I like to create a welcoming and professional environment where the student will feel comfortable exploring their many options here and know they have a whole team in their corner, rooting for their success.
What was your path to Newnan? In previous lives, I worked as a secondary education teacher both here in the United States as well as abroad in Japan and Peru. I also have experience with Literature, Science, and Arts students as an Academic Advisor at Eastern Michigan University, both in their Arts and Sciences advising office and the Honors College.
Why did you join Newnan? Joining Newnan was a long-term goal of mine upon deciding on a career in higher education. I wanted to work with LSA students (having been one myself) and help them through their experience at UM and beyond. Also, the group at Newnan is so warm and welcoming that you quickly feel comfortable connecting and being a part of the team.
Class you loved and why? History of Higher Education. I took this class in my Master's program and it was both very interesting and informative. Being able to trace how higher education became what it is today, why it excels, and how it needs to improve, was fascinating to learn.
Interests and hobbies Avid soccer fan, baker (sweet and savory things), and dog lover.
