A.B. History, 1995President, The Walt Disney Company, Asia Pacific
Luke Kang is currently President, The Walt Disney Company in Asia Pacific, responsible for studio motion pictures, Disney+, local original content production, media networks, and content sales businesses across the brands including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, ABC, Star, ESPN, and National Geographic brands in Greater China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
Luke joined Disney in 2011 as Managing Director of Korea where he led major strategic and organizational changes that resulted in record growth in the business. Following his time in Seoul, Luke moved to Shanghai in 2014 to manage the Greater China business and drove significant growth and expansion of Disney’s footprint by pivoting the strategy to focus on localization, digital, and consumer engagement. As a result, all segments including studio, content sales, and consumer products increased exponentially, significantly outpacing the market. In 2017, Luke’s responsibilities expanded to North Asia (Greater China, Japan, and South Korea) where the team continued to drive significant growth and completed the integration of the Fox businesses. In 2021, Luke’s remit expanded to Asia Pacific, where he led the team to launch and grow Disney+ across the region as well as expanded original local productions, resulting in critically-acclaimed, award-winning breakthrough hits such as Moving, Big Bet, A Shop for Killers, and Gannibal.
A veteran in the media & entertainment industry, Luke has held various senior roles at Viacom/MTV Networks Asia Pacific and digital media startups in Silicon Valley and Asia prior to joining Disney. Previous to this, he was with the Monitor Group as a management consultant as well as the Ministry of Finance & Economy of the Republic of Korea. Luke holds a M.S. in Management as a Sloan Fellow from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, and a B.A. in history from the University of Michigan.
