"During my internship at Professional Research Services, I worked as a Marketing and Events intern to help create “Top” lists for the top doctors, lawyers, dentists, or other professionals in a specified region, such as Palm Beach, Grand Rapids, or Seattle. I spent much of my time calling the region’s organizations or businesses and verifying information for printing, assisting the marketing director in departmental tasks, or distributing promotional materials. I was able to increase my proficiency tremendously working with spreadsheets as well as interpersonally as I collaborated with other interns, and I learned about the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating a publication like HOUR or Dbusiness."

"I spent most of my eight weeks with Bridge Michigan writing daily stories on-deadline about contemporary political and cultural issues in the state. I’ve grown much more comfortable making several phone calls and sending emails for stories, even if I only ever needed a couple sources to get back to me. My greater confidence in the reporting process has allowed me to maintain a human quality to even my most complex, seemingly impersonal work. I am grateful for the storytelling skills and journalism industry knowledge that I gained at Bridge, and I am eager to apply my passion for stories and community engagement in future writing and public service opportunities."

"This is a photo of me writing a story about Gov. Whitmer signing into law legislation that would distribute federal COVID-19 funds to local school districts to fill in education gaps. Since my internship was conducted virtually, I spent most of my days writing stories for the Manchester Mirror from my room in my college apartment. Although the experience was conducted virtually, my writing experiences will stick with me forever since they provided me with the tools necessary to enter the journalism industry."

"Over the summer, I worked as a Metro News Intern for the Chicago Tribune. I primarily worked on the breaking news desk and had the opportunity to write both short and long-form pieces. As someone who is interested in reporting on crime and the legal system, I am grateful that this internship gave me the opportunity to report on stories relating to Chicago crime and circuit courts as well as experience courtroom reporting. This internship also gave me the opportunity to leverage skills I learned while taking classes for my English minor such as creatively conveying information and writing meaningful pieces while being on short deadlines. Working at the Chicago Tribune enabled me to work with professional journalists and editors and experience professional newsroom production, and I am extremely thankful to the English Department for providing me with this opportunity.
