English Undergraduate Waitlist Policies

Undergraduate Studies Program

Students who would like to enroll in closed courses as seats become available must put themselves on the waitlist through Wolverine Access AND attend the first day of class in order to hold their place on the waitlist. Students are given permission to enroll in order of waitlist entry, although faculty can use their discretion to admit or not admit students from the waitlist into the course. Waitlist preference may be given for senior-level students or students completing their major/minor in the English department. Students who are given permission but do not enroll within the specified timeframe will be dropped from the waitlist.

Poetry and Fiction Workshops

English 323, English 423, English 324 and English 424 are initially open only to English Creative Writing Minors, English Creative Writing Capstone students, and students that have taken the enforced prerequisites. If you meet any of the three criteria, and you are not able to secure a seat in the class via the registration process, please email undergraduate.english@umich.edu to be added to the waitlist. You will be notified when a seat becomes available. For all students who do not have priority enrollment, admission to the course will be considered as spaces become available after the priority window closes.

English Department Writing Program

If an EDWP section is full, students should add themselves to the waitlist. Waitlisted students will be added, as space becomes available, on a rolling basis. If a student drops, the first waitlisted student will be issued a permission to enroll in the course. This will occur over the summer months for fall term and winter break for winter term and will continue for the first two weeks of classes. After two weeks all EDWP sections will require permission of the instructor to register if there is space available.
