Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy. MLA members host an annual convention and other meetings, work with related organizations, and sustain one of the finest publishing programs in the humanities. For more than a century, members have worked to strengthen the study and teaching of language and literature.

Second Vice President
Gaurav G. Desai (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) was elected second vice president of the association. He will serve in that office from 12 January 2026 through the close of the January 2027 convention and will automatically become first vice president in 2027, serving in that office through the close of the January 2028 convention. His term as president will begin after the close of the January 2028 convention and will continue through the close of the January 2029 convention.
Executive Council
Rachel Sagner Buurma (Swarthmore College), Kate Ostrom (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor), and Mihoko Suzuki (University of Miami) were elected to at-large seats on the Executive Council for four-year terms (12 Jan. 2026 through the close of the Jan. 2030 convention).
