Kristen has been a Lecturer at the University of Michigan's English Language Institute (ELI) since 2014, where she teaches international graduate students academic English communication skills, including oral communication, discussion skills, pronunciation, and professional speaking. She also contributes to ELI curriculum initiatives, having served on the curriculum committee. Her past ELI role includes coordinating and teaching in the English for Business Studies program, an intensive summer program for international MBAs attending the Ross School of Business. Kristen's 30-year career began in Grenoble, France, and encompasses extensive experience training teachers, leading curriculum development, and teaching English for NGOs, the U.S. government, and educational institutions in Gabon, Eritrea, Namibia, Slovenia, Egypt, Peru, Ukraine, Cuba, Senegal, Comoros, and Hungary. She also served as a U.S. Department of State English Language Specialist, providing teacher training and curriculum support globally, and has conducted testing for the Department of Defense and NATO. Her professional interests include English for Specific Purposes, oral assessment, and curriculum and materials development.
