Title: "The Articulate Codex in Early Medieval Iberia"
Abstract:
The Latin monastic scribes of early medieval Iberia were remarkably garrulous, recording in their great illuminated manuscripts not only their names but also--and in extraordinary detail--the dates, times, qualities, and conditions of their labor. This talk will examine some of the most striking (and beautiful!) of these interventions for what they can tell us about the imaginative lives of text, text-makers, and text-users, in the early Latin Middle Ages.
