The Orren C. Mohler Prize Lecture, “Building ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope: a unique adventure” presented by guest speaker Xavier Barcons
Prof. Barcons was this year's recipient of the Orren C. Mohler Prize. He has had a distinguished career studying the evolution of galaxies, and played a leadership role in developing space-based x-ray observatories. During his time at ESO he has overseen the development of the 39-meter ELT which will be the largest telescope in the world when it comes on-line in 2030, promising revolutionary discoveries in many areas of astronomy. UM is the only US institution involved in developing instruments for this transformative research facility.
