Current Research:
I am currently writing up an ethnographic study of young adult 戏曲 (xiqu, or Chinese opera) fans who are based in Beijing. Because xiqu has become an unusual thing to attach oneself to, this project focuses on the ways that opera fans understand and remake themselves through xiqu-related social institutions and technologies, including use of the voice, social media, recordings...
