About

What is your advising philosophy? My advising philosophy is rooted in a proactive approach, built on a foundational co-learning partnership, and the blueprint is having collaborative discussions alongside students to help them achieve their goals. From my perspective, the work of effective academic advising is to support students and help guide them along their developmental journeys. I believe my role is to assist students in discovering interests and passions, develop a plan, and offer continued support by aiming to keep going further. To use an encapsulating analogy, the essence of my advising approach is to go on a hike together where we have various destinations to pick from, but different trails can be utilized along the way to get there. We'll make sure we packed the map and compass!

What was your path to Newnan? I attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor as an undergraduate and graduate student. During my higher education program, I served in various roles ranging from orientation, academic advising, student life, and even summer camps. After graduating, I worked in residence life and later returned to academic advising. My most recent experience prior to Newnan was academic advising at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Why did you join Newnan? I joined Newnan because I am passionate about working with students and helping them navigate institutional resources. I understand that the University and its vastness can be overwhelming and I look forward to supporting students in LSA. I can see that the advising staff in Newnan is committed to the work and I appreciate their helpfulness and kindness.

Class you loved and why? English 308: History of the English Language. This class was taught by Dean Curzan and her passion for education was contagious. She deeply cared about her students and it definitely inspired us to participate fully. I hadn't realized that the history of English would be so interesting and I certainly underestimated how much it has changed over time. I found the topics around linguistics, dialects, codeswitching, etc. so fascinating. Many of these topics still resonate with me. We also got to provide new slang terms at the start of each session, so that was always a highlight!

Interests and hobbies: I like to be outdoors -- hiking, on a boat, at the beach, in the mountains. I enjoy traveling, road tripping, listening to music, cooking, playing games. I enjoy spending time with friends, family, my Corgi, and my two cats!
