About
What is your advising Philosophy?
My advising philosophy aims to assists students in moving beyond limiting beliefs and towards their goals through providing a balance of challenge and support. Incorporating the Appreciative Advising framework, I help students acknowledge their own unique potential, set goals, define success and continue on their path of learning while leveraging university resources. I enjoy positively impacting students lives and am committed to optimizing the educational experience for my students.
What was your path to Newnan?
As a first-generation college student my campus involvement with the Department of Residence Life at Michigan State University, while completing my undergraduate program played a large role in my path to academic advising and to Newnan. My early campus involvement allowed me to create community, define success and introduced me to student services. After completing my Masters of Education at Grand Valley State University, I have served students in various advising and student success focused roles. In addition to my advising roles, I have served as a course facilitator for the Appreciative Advising online course through the Office of Appreciative Education, which allows me to deepen my work with fellow advisors and students. I am excited for this opportunity to continue my advising work with LSA in the Newnan Advising Center.
Why did you join Newnan?
I joined the Newnan Academic Advising Center to be a part of a passionate team that has a strong sense of community and care for students.
I am eager to connect with students, discover their path to the University of Michigan and to Newnan and help them achieve their personal, academic and career goals.
Class you loved and why?
My favorite class by far has been SW 630, Global Service Learning, that I got to complete during my masters program as part of a summer abroad on a faculty-led program in El Salvador/Guatemala. It was an amazing experience overall and getting to interact with youth, students at Central American University in San Salvador, as well as families within the community was a rewarding experience.
