About
What is your advising philosophy?
I see college as being an extremely important time in a student's life because of how transformative it can be. However, the people, courses, and opportunities that will cultivate that experience completely depend on the person, which can be both exciting and overwhelming. As an advisor, I am uniquely positioned to get to know each student as an individual and help guide them toward the opportunities within and beyond the university that are going to be transformative for *them* and make their 4 years as fulfilling as possible.
What was your path to Newnan?
My first higher ed job was in the South Carolina Honors College at my alma mater, the University of South Carolina, as an Academic Advisor and Recruiting Coordinator. I absolutely loved this job, but I decided to move to Michigan in 2024 to be closer to my family. I worked as a Recruitment and Admissions Coordinator in the Marsal School of Education before joining Newnan as an academic advisor in early 2025!
Why did you join Newnan?
My experiences tutoring, teaching, and eventually advising undergraduate students made me realize how fulfilling it is to be able to offer the kind of support and guidance to students that was integral to my own personal, academic, and professional development. I love connecting with students and helping them make the most out of their time in college, and I know how important it is to have someone in your corner when you need them, especially on such a large campus. I find academic advising to be one of the best ways to offer this support to students, so I'm thrilled to return to an advising role.
Class you loved and why?
"Imposter Syndrome: The Modern US Novel and Uncertain Identity" for so many reasons! It was taught by one of the most kind and intelligent professors I've ever had (Cat Keyser at UofSC). We also read some really interesting novels like The Great Gatsby, The Talented Mr Ripley, and The Bluest Eye, within the context of analyzing characters who are pretending to be someone/thing they are not, and even though I took it during COVID, the professor taught it in a very collaborative and creative blog-style, so I still felt connected to the material and everyone in the class. Many of the papers I am most proud of were written in this class.
Interests and Hobbies
I love reading (mostly literary fiction and fantasy) and am picking up some new hobbies like crochet and yoga. I also love trying new restaurants and am having a lot of fun discovering all of the places to get vegan food/desserts in Ann Arbor--let me know if you have any recommendations!
