About

What is your advising philosophy?

My advising philosophy centers around student wellbeing and success. Taking classes is a very small component of the growth that we experience during college years, and I think the connections we make are just as important. I strive to support students, holistically, as they explore their passions, navigate change, and pursue their goals.

What was your path to Newnan?

My first job in higher education was at Washtenaw Community College where I worked in the Arts and Humanities department. My favorite part of that job was when I had opportunities to connect with students and create opportunities for learning and engagement. When I applied for the CSHPE master’s program, I knew that I wanted to continue working with students. After completing my masters in Higher Education, an internship with Student Life Sustainability, and temporarily serving as a success coach at Wayne State University I finally made my way to the Newnan Academic Advising Center.

Why did you join Newnan?

I'm proud to be a part of the Newnan advising team where student support and staff wellbeing are both top priorities. When I met the team of advisors at Newnan, I could sense the strong culture of community care. Since starting my career here, I have continuously been impressed by the positive work culture and commitment to students.

Class you loved and why?

The first college class that really made an impact on me was Monuments and Cultures at Washtenaw Community College. It is still in my top favorites of classes I've taken today because of how dynamic that class was. The instructor utilized a variety of pedagogical learning techniques, and we had many opportunities to discuss and connect with peers. Field trips were also a component of that course, and it was through that class that I visited the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) for the first time! It was also through that class that I discovered my passion for higher education, critical thinking, and student engagement.

 Interests and hobbies:

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and my two cats. Making time for rest and self-care is important to me. On the weekends, you'll often find me snuggled up on the couch with a blanket, a cat, and a cup of tea. I'm passionate about sustainable food, and love cooking and baking with seasonal ingredients. I also love exploring local parks and cafes.
