About
What is your advising philosophy?
Students are unique individuals, each with their own interests, strengths, goals, and life circumstances. Recognizing this, my advising approach is holistic, collaborative, and student-centered. By building authentic relationships, I aim to empower students to make confident, informed decisions about their coursework, degree path, and future aspirations. Through personalized guidance, I strive to support both their academic and personal growth.
What was your path to Newnan?
My path to Newnan has been anything but linear. After working in both the private and nonprofit sectors across several states, I relocated to Ann Arbor when my spouse was transferred here in the early 2000's. Having recently completed my master’s degree, I came to appreciate how much I enjoyed working with college students through teaching and tutoring. This led me to seek employment at University of Michigan, where I worked at both the International Center and the University of Michigan Medical School. I found the Ann Arbor community—and the University—to be supportive, inspiring, and an overall wonderful place to be. When faced with another transfer, I always knew I would return to UM at the first opportunity.
After a brief stay in Fayetteville, AR, we relocated to South Florida, where I accepted a position at Florida Atlantic University and quickly discovered my passion for advising. I spent about three years as an academic advisor in the College of Science, building meaningful connections with incredible students, faculty, and staff. Although I am sad to leave my FAU family, I am excited for the opportunity to return home and continue doing what I love--supporting the outstanding students in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
Why did you join Newnan?
Newnan provides the perfect pathway to merge my love for University of Michigan and Ann Arbor with my strong commitment to student support. Newnan academic advisors are dedicated to student success, with each team member being supportive, compassionate, and always ready to help both the students we serve and each other.
Class you loved and why?
Quantitative Analysis - the first class I took as a graduate student. I had been away from higher education for a number of years, and I wasn't 100% confident in my ability to pursue graduate work. Excelling in the course gave me the confidence needed to pursue an assistantship with the department and complete the degree ahead of schedule.
Interests and hobbies:
Spending time with family and friends, having an adventure, discovering new people and places, classical piano (beginner!) ... and definitely a nap when time permits.
