About

What is your advising philosophy?

My advising philosophy involves being a point of support for students. At a large university, it becomes easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of students and opportunities. As an advisor, I am here to listen to students and their academic concerns as they navigate this space. I am also here to encourage students to reflect on their goals and what they wish to achieve. I value building a relationship with students and being one of many points of support along their academic journey.

What was your path to Newnan?

I completed my undergrad at UC San Diego where I worked in a variety of roles related to student affairs. This included student government, orientation, and academic advising. I enjoyed my experiences in all three areas but had a special interest in academic advising. I worked as a peer advisor for three years and enjoyed connecting with students in that setting. After graduating, I realized I was interested in continuing my work in academic advising.

Why did you join Newnan?

I am most familiar with navigating a large public university and knew I wanted to work in that specific sphere of higher education. Newnan felt like a perfect fit – it’s a fresh environment where I can grow as an advisor and do the work I love. Also, Newnan is full of supportive people who are willing to help one another and grow.

Class you loved and why?

ENVR 102. The topic of the class was Environmental Law and Policies in American Indian Country. Prior to taking the class, I did not have much exposure to policy coursework. I felt like I learned a lot, especially when it came to exploring the legal side of environmental science. The class was also very eye-opening as it demonstrated how case law perpetuated environmental injustices against Native American tribes and nations.

Interests and hobbies:

Tennis, reading, hiking, and learning new things.
