Fraternity Men's Friendships, Bystander Intervention, and Restorative Approaches to Sexual Harm on Campus

Description of research project:

This project is a dissertation study on fraternity men’sexperiences with bystander behaviors in their social spaces and the social fall-out for friend groups who weather instances of sexual harm. The project seeks to understand how restorative approaches to healing and accountability might be better suited to supporting students and their friends and social networks after sexual harm occurs. The data for this project include a longitudinal set of interviews with fraternity men and a smaller set of interviews with restorative-oriented practitioners working on college campuses across the United States.

Description of Work:

I am seeking between 1-3 SURO students to assist with reading transcripts and creating spreadsheets to indicate what questions are asked in each interview. This is a broad approach to qualitative coding, and students will get a lot of expereience dealing with large qualitative datasets, processing that data, and learning how to organize and analyze it. Students can be new to the SURO program, but must have demonstrated abilities with Microsoft Excel, strong organizational skills, and be detailed-oriented. Furthermore, students must have strong writing and communication skills.

Students accepted to this project will be required to attend a 1-hour, in person, weekly lab meeting.
