Help Room and Resources

For the Fall 2026 semester, the Physics Help Room (1416 Randall Lab) will be open for the Fall 2026 from Tuesday, September 8, through Monday, December 14. 

Hours of Operation:

  • Monday–Thursday: 10:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

The Help Room will be closed on the following dates: 

  • Fall Break: October 19–20
  • Thanksgiving Break: November 25–27

The Physics Department encourages students taking introductory physics courses to utilize the following resources:

  • Physics Help Room (1416 Randall Lab)
    • The Physics Help Room is a space for drop-in tutoring sessions for Physics Introductory Courses and Labs.

  • Problem Roulette 
  • Society of Physics Students (SPS)
    • Student run organization for anyone interested in physics
    • Offers tutoring in the Physics Help Room during the fall and winter terms
    • Find a list of private physics tutors on the SPS tutoring website

In addition, there is also the Science Learning Center (1720 Chemistry) that provides study groups for intro physics courses.

Tutor Availability

The Physics Help Room schedule and tutor availability are now available through UMStudy.

The University of Michigan’s UMStudy app connects students with academic resources across campus. Through the website or mobile app, students can view all tutoring and study-group sessions on campus for any course in which they are enrolled. This app shows availability for tutoring sessions through the Physics Help Room, The Science Learning Center, the Mathematics Learning Center and more.

To find support for an introductory Physics course or lab, visit the UMStudy website or open the app and select your course. The available Physics Help Room tutors and their hours will appear. The Physics Help Room, located in 1464 Randall Laboratory, remains a drop-in service and no appointment is necessary. Simply visit when a tutor for your course is available.
