Introductory Labs

Department of Physics Waitlist Policy

Almost all Physics courses--including the introductory labs--utilize the electronic waitlist system on Wolverine Access. When a seat becomes available in a class that was previously full, overrides will be issued at the discretion of the department or instructor, typically in the order that students joined the waitlist, although in some cases class standing will also be taken into account. Students will have at least 48 hours to register for a course once an electronic permission is issued to them.

If you have questions about the waitlist process, please email us at physics.sso@umich.edu.

First-Day Attendance Policy for Physics Labs

Students are required to attend the first day of lab class. If you have an extenuating circumstance, you must communicate with your lab instructor prior to the start of the first lab. Studnets who do not attend the first lab without contacting the lab instructor in advance may be dropped from their section. If you have any questions, please contact physics.sso@umich.edu.

Make-Up Lab Policy for Physics Labs

Lab attendance is mandatory. Make-ups are given only in rare cases for specific, documented reasons. These include medical reasons, family emergencies, religious holidays, and official University of Michigan sponsored events. Except for emergency situations, permission for make-ups need to be obtained prior to the event. Note that students who have to do a make-up lab must often work alone. Therefore, students should choose a lab section with the least number of predetermined conflicts, preferably none. If you have questions, please contact your lab instructor.
