Gabriele Carcassi leads a project in the foundations of physics called Assumptions of Physics (https://assumptionsofphysics.org) that aims to find a minimum set of assumptions from which the laws can be rederived. This includes not only the equations for classical and quantum theories, but also the mathematical structure necessary to write those equations. The ultimate goal is to have a foundation for physics that is physically meaningful, mathematically precise, and conceptually consistent.
