Research Scientist
About
Shawn McKee is a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan with interests in large-scale scientific collaborations and cyberinfrastructure development, to support both fundamental physics discoveries and the computing foundations that make them possible.
Research Interests
- Experimental Particle Physics:
Actively involved in high-energy physics, particularly in the search for dark matter using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), CERN
- Distributed Scientific Computing:
Research on distributed, data-intensive infrastructures that support high-energy physics and e-Science, including grid, networking, and storage technologies.
- Cyberinfrastructure and Networking:
Development of advanced cyberinfrastructure, high-throughput computing, and networking for collaborative science.
Roles & Leadership
- Director, ATLAS Great Lakes Tier-2 Center:
Oversight of one of the U.S. regional computing centers for the ATLAS experiment, managing large-scale computing and storage for particle physics data.
- Co-Manager for USATLAS Facilities and Distributed Computing
- ATLAS Co-Convener for Distributed Data Management
- Founding Director, Center for Network and Storage-Enabled Collaborative Computational Science (MICDE) 2016-2022:
Leading efforts to enhance computational research infrastructure at Michigan.
- OSG Networking Lead
