About
Professor Zhu is an experimental high energy physicist conducting research at the CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (ATLAS experiment). ATLAS was built to help scientists to address the most fundamental questions about matter and forces. Professor Zhu’s main research activities at ATLAS include Standard Model measurements, searches for new phenomena, and upgrades of frontend electronics for the ATLAS muon spectrometer. Previously, he worked at the D0 experiment at Fermilab’s Tevatron Collider. He focused on high precision electroweak measurements with W and Z bosons, QCD diphoton measurements, and Higgs searches with diphoton or associated production with a Z boson, and the upgrade and operation of the silicon tracker trigger.
Professor Zhu is also the Principle Investigator for the UM-CERN summer REU (research experience for undergraduates) and HST (high school teachers) program.
Professor Zhu received the DOE early career award, US ATLAS fellow, CERN scientific associate, Alvin Tollestrup award for outstanding postdoctoral research at Fermilab from Universities Research Association and the Martin and Beate Block award from the Aspen Center for Physics.
