The philosophy department welcomes back, Tad Schmaltz, in his role as department chair. Tad replaces Professor Laura Ruetsche, who was interim chair for the past year. Tad was previously chair through academic years 2019-2024. The philosophy department thanks both Laura and Tad for their service.

Tad Schmaltz joined the Department in 2010, after having been a member of the philosophy faculty at Duke University for 21 years. He has published books, articles and book chapters on various topics concerning early modern philosophy and science. His fields of study are Early Modern Philosophy, Metaphysics, and History and Philosophy of Science.
