The Department enjoys a combination of specialized and unrestricted endowments and bequests. Both play a vital role. Unrestricted endowments provide flexibility to respond to emerging opportunities and changing circumstances. Restricted endowments are reserved for special needs and programs. These include endowments to support teaching and research in broad subfields of the discipline (such as moral and political philosophy, epistemology and metaphysics, philosophy of science, or the history of philosophy), to assist in the development of interdisciplinary programs, to fund graduate student fellowships, and to assist in faculty recruitment and retention. The Department is pleased to meet with prospective donors to discuss gifts and gift vehicles tailored to their interests and circumstances. Contact our Chair by email or by phone at 734-764-6285 to discuss giving to Philosophy.
