Maegan Fairchild has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in the Philosophy Department. She was an LSA Collegiate Fellow from 2018-2020 and became an Assistant Professor in 2020. Maegan recieved her PhD in Philosophy from the University of Southern California.
Maegan Fairchild specializes in metaphysics, with interests in related areas of philosophical logic, epistemology, and aesthetics. Much of her research concerns “maximally permissive” approaches to ontology, and explores how taking extreme or revisionary theories seriously can help us make progress on a wide range of other challenging questions. Other current work includes projects on ontological maximalism, on the role of social practice and personal significance in material object metaphysics, on metaphysical vagueness, on authenticity and self-discovery, and on wishful thinking in theory choice.
Congratulations, Professor Fairchild!
