Sunday Drop-In Tour | How Romans Got Their Bread

Dave Horrocks, Docent
Sunday, June 7, 2026
2:00-3:00 PM
Kelsey Museum of Archaeology Map
How did ancient Rome feed its massive population? This drop-in tour traces the paths of Roman food supply chains across land and sea. Museum objects tell the story of how food was produced, moved, stored, and distributed—from farms in Egypt, to the annual grain fleet, to the so-called “grain dole” that helped supply Rome’s citizens.
