Perched above the Aegean Sea in Türkiye, the ancient Ionian Greek city of Notion was famed for its military harbor, as well as its connections to the city of Colophon and the oracular sanctuary at Claros. In this Flash Talk, Christopher Ratté will discuss the most recent season of fieldwork at the site, highlighting the ongoing excavation, study, and conservation of Notion’s civic, residential, and surrounding areas.

Christopher Ratté is the director of the Notion Archaeological Project and professor of ancient Mediterranean art and archaeology at the University of Michigan.

Kelsey Museum Flash Talks are 15-minute Zoom lectures by Kelsey curators, staff members, researchers, graduate students, and guests talking about their recent research or current projects. Each presentation is followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. Flash Talks are free and open to all visitors.
