Kelsey Strategic Programs (Fund Code 302974)

This fund supports Kelsey exhibitions and conservation. The Museum mounts two special public exhibitions each year, with plans for expanded programming. Exhibitions cost from $50,000 to $100,000 each. The budgets typically include special items on loan from other world-class museums, the publication of a catalogue, special labels and graphics, shipping costs, insurance, and special display cases. The conservation of a single complex object can cost up to $2,000. And a richly illustrated exhibition catalogue may run to as much as $10,000 in printing costs.

Fieldwork Excavations (Fund Code 332409)

The Kelsey supports a broad array of archaeological field projects, including both excavations and surveys, exploring a wide variety of different theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of ancient societies. This pluralistic vision has helped to make the University of Michigan a national center for teaching and research in Classical, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern archaeology.
