Weineck Presents Research
Professor of German Studies and Comparative Literature Silke-Maria Weineck presented her work in Atlanta, Zurich, and Hawaii (because the life of the academic is strenuous), and she is scheduled to give invited lectures at the University of Chicago and at Princeton in 2018. Together with her co-author, Stefan Szymanski, she just finished a short and not-entirely-serious monograph on one of the most pressing questions facing us today: why do some people get so upset when Americans call association football "soccer"? In the meantime, she is having fun with her freshpeople seminar "True/False/Neither," where students investigate the fake news industry, the replication crisis plaguing the social sciences, the laws that crimininalize (some) lying, and philosophical accounts of truth and lie in Nietzsche, Arendt, and Harry Frankfurt's On Bullshit.
