A firsthand opportunity to learn about the graduate programs in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB), the two departments primarily responsible for biological research at the University of Michigan.

Who can participate?

Highly qualified prospective graduate students are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to students from low-income homes, students who are first-generation college students, or students whose backgrounds are underrepresented in academia.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents or undocumented students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA).

No cost to attend
Travel and housing expenses, including on-campus meals, are provided for students selected to attend the preview weekend. Slots are limited to 10- 15 participants so be sure to apply soon!

Starting several years ago, the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) and the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) departments began inviting highly qualified prospective graduate students to visit Ann Arbor and preview opportunities for Ph.D. research. We are pleased to offer this program again this year!  

Why apply to attend the EEB/MCDB Fall Preview?

During the EEB/MCDB Preview Weekend you will have the opportunity to explore the diversity of biological Ph.D. research programs carried out at the University of Michigan. Interact with current students and faculty. Discover how approachable and friendly the EEB and MCDB research communities are, and experience firsthand what life is like in Ann Arbor – a community consistently voted as one of the top college towns in the U.S. 

EEB/MCDB weekend overview

Throughout the preview weekend there will be many opportunities for you to make important connections in the scientific community. Specific events during the Fall Preview Weekend will include: research facility tours that will give you a sense of what it is like to be a graduate student at the University of Michigan; time to meet with Ph.D. program representatives; a panel session on what to think about when applying to graduate programs and tips for how to prepare a graduate school application.

EEB program participants will visit the UM Edwin S. George Reserve field station as an opportunity to observe field research in action.

MCDB program participants will attend the Annual MCDB Departmental Retreat (October 17).
