The University of Michigan has announced Elizabeth Cole as interim dean of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). Professor Cole currently serves as LSA’s associate dean for social sciences and as professor in the Departments of Psychology, Women’s Studies, and Afroamerican and African Studies. She will start her term as interim dean on September 1, 2018. Current dean Andrew D. Martin will continue to serve the college as dean emeritus and special advisor to the interim dean until November 4, and will also lead Advancement efforts during that time.
“It’s my honor to serve the college at this important transition,” says Cole. “I look forward to continuing to work with faculty, staff, and students on our most exciting initiatives, including LSA’s Opportunity Hub and the implementation of our DEI plan.”
“I am very pleased that Elizabeth Cole will assume this role for LSA,” says Dean Martin. “Not only is she an exceptional scholar and leader, she is a wise person who has made enormous contributions to the college. Under Liz’s leadership, I know that the college and initiatives like the LSA Opportunity Hub and our strategic plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion are in good hands.”
