About
I am a scholar of twentieth-century literature, with special interests in the novel and post-World War II US literary culture. I am currently completing a manuscript that explores how the political novel in the US evolved in response to the social movements of the 1960s. My essays and reviews have appeared in Post45, Novel: A Forum on Fiction, American Literary History, and African American Review.
At Michigan, I teach courses on US social mobility narratives, African American literature, Jewish-American fiction, literary representations of intellectuals, the cultural Cold War, and the campus novel, among other topics. I am happy to work with graduate students interested in twentieth and twenty-first-century US literatures, literary nationalism and transnationalism, US imperialism, the novel, genre theory, and cultural criticism.
