Join the Department of Comparative Literature and the Residential College on Sant Jordi Day,
- April 23rd, 3-4:30 pm,
- In the CompLit main suite (2021 Tisch Hall 435 South State Street)
To celebrate the careers of
Professor Catherine Brown & Professor Ruth Tsoffar!
What better way to honor all they have done for our communities than to share books and roses Barcelona-style?
There will be food and drinks, and former students and colleagues talking about books that Catherine and Ruth helped them fall in love with.
Plus, two lucky winners will get a copy of their latest books in a special drawing!
Please be sure to RSVP by April 15 so we can plan accordingly.
According to Catalan legend, the knight Sant Jordi slew a dragon to save a princess, and from the dragon's blood sprang a rosebush. He plucked the finest red rose for the princess, and she, in turn, gifted him a book to symbolize 'a rose for love, and a book forever.' On April 23, the streets of Barcelona transform into an open-air library and garden. Millions of roses and books are exchanged between friends and colleagues, turning the entire city into a celebration of chivalry, storytelling, and the enduring power of the written word.
We look forward to celebrating together!
