Admission

Admission to the Certificate program is granted on a rolling basis, meaning students are encouraged to apply at any time. However, students who plan to pursue the certificate are encouraged to apply as early in their programs as possible. (One term of U-M graduate study must be completed prior to the applicant’s designated term of admission.) Applicants must be in good academic standing and have written approval from the graduate advisor in their program.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted to the Translation Studies Advisor using the Graduate Certificate in Critical Translation Studies Departmental Application

Application Requirements

  1. A 200-250 word statement of purpose explaining interest in the Certificate Program
  2. A preliminary plan of courses that will count towards the certificate based on consultation with the Translation Advisor
  3. A Curriculum Vitae/Resume
  4. A brief letter of support from the student’s faculty advisor (DGS or committee chair). A letter request will be generated in the application system.

If accepted, students then apply to the certificate program via Rackham by submitting one of the two Rackham applications.  More information will be sent to the student after the approval of the departmental application.

  • For current Rackham students: Complete the Dual Admission Application
    • Current Rackham students must also submit the Pre-Approval Form for Dual Admission (having obtained a signature of approval from the authorized signer in their current graduate program)
  • For non-Rackham U-M students (e.g., Law, Business, etc.): Complete Rackham's online application
    • Graduate Certificate applicants do not need to submit new test scores, but a final official copy of undergraduate transcripts/credentials must be submitted to Rackham.
